Opinion: Border Field State Park is profoundly inaccessible. This wouldn’t happen at Torrey Pines.


Nearly 3 million people visit Torrey Pines State Park each year, more than 37 times the number of people who visit Border Field State Park. Why is this? Maybe South County San Diegans just don’t enjoy the beach and outdoors like North County residents? Of course that is not the case. The reason South County San Diegans can’t go to the beach is because of a crisis of underinvestment and inequitable access in our parks. Border Field State Park has long been a poster child for this crisis.
